May 9th, 2017 by WCBC Radio

Mineral County Sheriff's Deputies have charged an Oakland man in connection with a fatal accident that occurred on Route 28 late last week.

24 year old Tyler Sweitzer was heading north on Route 28 and believed to be at a high rate of speed when he crossed into the southbound lanes near Press's Market, and into the path of 58 year old Troya Smith, of Shanks, WV.  Eyewitness accounts say that Smith had no time to react and was killed as a result of the direct impact.  She was pronounced dead at the scene by EMS personnel.

Sweitzer was initially taken to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center, and then flown to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown.  Although the investigation is continuing, initial information is that controlled dangerous substances may be involved.
