Office fire in Barton

The Maryland State Fire Marshall's office confirned an accidental fire caused an estimated $60,000 loss in an office building of the S.E. Clark Trucking company early Sunday. The 3:09 a.m. fire at 20301 Lower Georges Creek Road was discovered by a passerby, prompting alert of 40 volunteer firefighters from six companies.

The Cumberland Times News reports the Barton Hose Company led the fire operation that took 20 minutes to control the blaze.

The cause of the fire was attributed to an electrical problem in an interior ceiling, according to Deputy Fire Marshal Ryan Chapman.

The fire marshal’s office estimated damages to the single-story wood frame building at $45,000 and $15,000 to its contents.

Barton, Westernport, Lonaconing, Midland, Piedmont and Bloomington volunteer fire companies responded.
