Officials Continue to Discuss School Security

May 30th, 2013 by WCBC Radio

Sheriff Craig Robertson traveled to Newtown, Connecticut earlier this week as part of a study on school security. The visit, which is part of the Allegany County Board of Education’s effort to create an enhanced school security plan, was with the chief of police there, who has been investigating the tragic shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School in December. It was in light of the events at Sandy Hook, where 20 children and six adults were killed, educators and county officials decided to form a committee to study local school security issues. Delegate Kevin Kelly told local school and law enforcement officials that he personally favors the idea of having armed personnel in the schools- however he realizes there is some strong criticism of that concept that may make its implementation unlikely.
