While Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley is calling for state lawmakers to increase the minimum wage- Congressman John Delaney (MD-6) called for his colleages on the federal level to do the same. Delaney’s speech marked the 50th anniversary of the War on Poverty. On January 8, 1964, President Lyndon B. Johnson delivered his first State of the Union address- and declared “an unconditional war on poverty.”
