There is an old cliché that politics makes strange bedfellows- and that appears to be the case when it comes to the controversial “Dream Act” which is in place in Texas, and has been approved for Maryland. Maryland’s Democratic Governor Martin O’Malley has seldom had kind words for Republicans, but he offered praise earlier this month for Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s immigration policies, praising him for standing up to what he called “thinly-veiled racism” within the GOP ranks. O’Malley, chairman of the Democratic Governors Association, praised the Republican presidential candidate for his defense of a Texas law that allows children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition rates. Perry signed the bill into law in 2001, and was booed by some attendees at recent GOP debates after he reiterated his support for the idea.
