Governor Committed to Canal Place

January 17th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

If the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority is to continue as a state operation- it was made clear this week that the state will have to step to plate and provide “adequate” funding to maintain the operation. In a meeting Wednesday focusing on the future of Canal Place, the possible abolishment of the authority was advocated by several in attendance- including Delegate Kevin Kelly and County Commissioner Mike McKay. Among those on hand for what turned into a two hour discussion were several representatives from the staff of Maryland Governor Martin O’Malley including Israel “Izzy”  Patoka,  the Director of Intergovernmental Affairs.  He talked with WCBC News following the session and while not offering specifics, said he believes the governor is committed to the authority and Canal Place.
