Governor Martin O’Malley may be considering a law repealing the state’s death penalty. The Washington Post reports that such a move would add to the governor’s progressive legacy. It has been six years since Maryland’s highest court banned the death penalty on a technicality. Aides to the governor say a decision on whether or not to seek total repeal of the death penalty will be made in the coming weeks.
