O’Malley Nominates Commissioner Mckay For Seat

Governor Martin O’Malley on Friday submitted to the Maryland Senate a list of more than 100 “green bag” nominations for appointment and reappointment for State boards and commissions- including Allegany County Commissioner Mike Mckay for a seat on the Canal Place Preservation and Development Authority. McKay’s name was submitted for consideration shortly after the abrupt resignation by Mark Widmyer last September after he had expressed a number of concerns with recent Authority actions and decisions. One of those concerns centered on the future of the historical Footer Dye Works building. Widmyer would prefer to see it demolished, however the board of directors has moved forward seeking private commercial development for the property. The deadline for proposals was Monday.
