O’Malley Releases Details On Tougher Gun Control Measures

New York Mayor Michael Bloomberg was in Baltimore Monday kicking off a gun violence summit at Johns Hopkins- meanwhile the governor's office is releasing more details about new, tougher gun control measures to go before lawmakers this session. The added rules for purchasing a firearm or obtaining a handgun carry permit would become stricter, if the Assembly were to pass them. Among the proposals the governor is offering up is a new fingerprinting requirement. The new regulations for fingerprinting would exempt hunting rifles and shotguns and those who already own guns legally. Last week the governor said he would introduce legislation to ban assault weapons.  Current law in Maryland does ban assault-type pistols.  The gun control measures in many cases have been tied to school security issues following last month’s shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School. When it comes to actually having armed personnel in the schools as some have suggested, O’Malley doesn’t view that as the best way to address the real problem….
