O’Malley Safeguarding Maryland from Sequestration

Governor Martin O’Malley said that both he and the General Assembly have taken swift action to protect Maryland’s safety net from the effects of federal sequestration- which he calls a series of automatic cuts mandated by law that threaten job creation and reduce vital services for families and children in Maryland and across the nation. The Maryland Legislative Policy Committee recently approved the O’Malley-Brown Administration’s proposed budget amendment that appropriates nearly $9 million in dedicated funds to support critical programs and services impacted by federal sequestration. Calling the sequester “senseless” O’Malley says it will lead to job-killing cuts that will threaten the state’s  economic progress and put vulnerable Marylanders at risk…
