O’Malley’s Gas Tax Will Take Effect in July

March 13th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

Tomorrow, Maryland  Governor Martin O'Malley  testifies before a pair of committees on his plan to impose the state's sales tax on gasoline. The governor has called the vote on this proposal "a tough ask" for lawmakers.  However, the governor says it is necessary to generate money for highway projects. The bill phases in the state’s 6% sales tax on gasoline over three years. For the first three years the tax is in effect, the bill would halt tax collections for one year if gasoline prices increase 15% over a given year. Allegany County Commissioner Bill Valentine said that he came away from recent meeting with a staffer from the governor’s office, and the clear indication is that the increase will go into effect July 1 of this year no matter how high gas prices are at that time.

Unfotunately, this is why my house will soon be on the market. If I could move my business that also would happen but that is not an option. While WV may be catching up as it stands now,I should of listened to my accountant and made the move years ago. My outright disgust and opinions of MOST of the ‘Annapolis Gang’ would probabley result in a knocking at my door-so enough said:/
