One Arrested After Mapleside Disturbance

On Wednesday October 2nd, 2019 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a Massachusetts Avenue address for a reported disturbance. Upon officers arrival they attempted to speak with a subject about the incident. Tyele Ashaun Powell then exited the residence and began to create a disturbance. Powell was ordered to lower his voice and to stop yelling, but Powell continued his behavior. Officers then advised Powell that he was under arrest, and Powell attempted to flee back into the residence.  A struggle ensued and Powell struck the officers and fled the area on foot. After a foot chase Powell was captured and placed under arrest. During the officers investigation it was learned that Powell was in violation of a protective order issued by a District Court Judge. Powell was charges with two counts of assault second degree, resisting arrest, obstructing and hindering, fail to obey, and disorderly conduct. Powell was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center where he was released on his own recognizance.
