One Last Hurdle for Rocky Gap Slots

May 30th, 2012 by WCBC Radio

One final hurdle- approval by the Maryland Board of Public Works-  remains before the Evitts/Lakes group can begin efforts in earnest to construct and operate a full fledged slots casino at  the Rocky Gap Lodge and Golf Resort.

The state’s video lottery location commission approved the license for the group last month, and it is expected the Board Public Works- which consists of the Governor, Comptroller and state Treasurer- will follow suit and sign off on the license at their meeting in late June. The plan calls for 850 slot machines, with anticipated growth to 1,000 machines in the second year of operation. The hope is that when a slots facility opens, the struggling resort will become a true destination point- and that it will lead to additional businesses such as hotels and  restaurants in the area. A company spokesman told WCBC News that he has little doubt the state board will see the many positives the casino will bring to the region and give its seal of approval in June…
