One Person Transported From Green Ridge State Forest After Injury

June 25th, 2019 by WCBC Radio

FLINTSTONE – One person was transported to Western Maryland  Regional Medical Center in Cumberland after sustaining injuries in a remote part of Green Ridge State Forest late Monday.

“Allegany County Joint Communications took the first 911 call at 8:41 p.m. reporting an injured female off Dug Hill Road in the Green Ridge State Forest,” Todd Bowman, DES public information officer said. “Our highly trained communication specialists used cellular signal tracking to locate the caller and injured subject with the assistant of Maryland State Police Aviation.”

Bowman added that once the subject and caller were located a Natural Resource Police Officer was able to make physical contact with the patient and provide updated information. Due to inclement weather moving into the area, MSP Aviation Trooper 5 had to abort the mission.

Units from Allegany and Washington counties responded to the incident including Orleans, Flintstone, Hancock, Hancock EMS and Allegany County Department of Emergency Services EMS Division.

“The incident command post was established at the intersections of Orleans, High Germany and Mountain roads,” Bowman said.

“A combined effort with our Joint Communications Center and field operation units allowed units to access the patient as quickly as possible and provide medical treatment and transport,” Allegany County Department of Emergency Services Deputy Director Roger Bennett said. “Using modern technology to look at the cellular signal, coupled with aviation to guide ground units decreased the time the occupants were in the woods.”
