U.S. Senators Shelley Moore Capito (R-W.Va.) and Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), members of the Senate Appropriations Committee, today announced grants totaling more than $3 million dollars for health centers across West Virginia. Recipients will use this funding to increase access to high-quality integrated behavioral health services, including prevention or treatment of mental health conditions and/or substance use disorders. Funding is provided by the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services’ (HHS) Health Center Integrated Behavioral Health Services.
“We all know West Virginia has been hit particularly hard by the opioid crisis, but how we treat those struggling with drug abuse is profoundly different—for the better,” Senator Capito said. “Today, we understand that many individuals struggling with addiction can benefit from mental health services, and this funding will help them get the care and support they need.”
“West Virginia has been ground zero for the opioid crisis and we must do more to combat this terrible epidemic facing our nation. This funding is a great step towards helping our communities recover from substance use disorder through mental health prevention and treatment programs, I look forward to helping secure more funding for West Virginia to fight this crisis,” Senator Manchin said.
