Parents Angry About BOE’s Decision On Washington Co. Schools Option

Parents from the Little Orleans area have been regular attendees at both Allegany County School Board and County Commissioner meetings in recent months- continuing to lobby for the board to overturn its June decision to phase out the program that allows students to attend neighboring Hancock school. While the high school kids are being grandfathered in, that isn’t the case with the middle schoolers. The parents have filed an appeal of the local decision with the state board of education. Many of the parents say while they are obviously  angry with the board’s action to eliminate the Washington County option, perhaps even more upsetting  has been what they view as  the board members dismissive and “condescending” attitude toward the parents and students on this issue. Linda Martin has been the primary spokesperson for the group and she blasted the school board for their handling of the situation during the July meeting…
