Paw Paw man facing kidnapping charges

The Cumberland Times News reports a Paw Paw, West Virginia, man was arrested Tuesday by the U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task force on charges that he kidnapped a woman in Mineral County on May 3. Burt W. Gayleard Jr., 40, charged with burglary and kidnapping when he was arrested in Halethorpe, according to West Virginia State Police at Keyser.

The charges stemmed from an alleged incident on May 3 when he entered the Fort Ashby home of the victim, his former acquaintance.

 

Gayleard allegedly threatened the victim and forced her to drive him to an undisclosed location on Jersey Mountain Road in Hampshire County.

The victim then convinced Gaylord to allow her to pull the vehicle into the Cruise Thru convenience store near Romney to buy cigarettes.

The store owner then assisted the victim as she placed her order for merchandise. Gayleard fled on foot.

 

Police were notified immediately.

The incident was investigated by Cpl. J.E. Whisner of the West Virginia State Police Keyser detachment.
