Now that the question of ownership has been satisfied, and the bridge stabilized for the time being- planning continues for a long range comprehensive approach to repairing and maintaining the CSX owned bridges in Cumberland. The issue came to a head last year when city engineers determined that the CSX Washington Street Bridge was in such a state of disrepair it had to be temporarily closed. Then came an issue of who exactly is responsible for the bridge, with neither CSX nor the City of Cumberland able to produce documentation. Ultimately CSX acknowledged ownership and responsibility for that- and three other bridges in the city limits.
