Police collecting unused/expired medications

May 20th, 2016 by WCBC Radio

The Cumberland Police Department will be providing homebound residents in the City of Cumberland an opportunity to dispose of unused or expired medication on:

Friday, May 27, between the hours of 12:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m.;

 Saturday, May 28, between the hours of 9:00 a .m. until 5:00 p.m..

 Anyone wanting to participate in this event should call 301-759-6463 and leave a message which includes your name, address, and a phone number where you can be reached.  An officer will contact you to schedule at a time that is convenient, within the hours of the operation, to pick up the medication.  If you fail to schedule a time, you can still call 301-777-1600 during the hours of the operation and an officer will be dispatched to your home, if time allows, to retrieve your unused/expired medication.

This service is available through support from an Allegany County Health Department Behavioral Health Service Opiate Misuse Prevention Program grant, from the Behavioral Health Administration and Substance Abuse and Mental Health Administration.

The disposal of medications is encouraged to reduce the availability of prescription medication in the community and to reduce prescription pain medication misuse and abuse.

Medications can be dropped off at the Cumberland Police Department between the hours of 8:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m. each weekday.
