Shoplifting Arrest

On July 17, 2014 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to Martin's Market located at 739 Park Street for a shoplifting complaint.  During an investigation into the matter officers were advised that Misty Dawn Bucy was observed by Martin's staff concealing merchandise inside boxes of cereal and creamer.  After concealing the items inside the boxes, Bucy went through the checkout line without paying for the items.  Bucy was detained by a store employee and the items were recovered.  Bucy was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Bucy was served with a criminal citation and released pending her trial in District Court.

Arrest Warrant Served

On July 17, 2014, Cumberland City Police Department served an arrest warrant on Michael Robert Caswell Jr., age 27 of Wiley Ford, West Virginia.  The warrant charges Caswell with second degree assault.  The warrant was issued after the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the Western Maryland Regional Medical Center on July 11, 2014 for an assault complaint.  An investigation into the matter revealed that Caswell spit in the face of a female victim while he was a patient at the hospital.  Caswell was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance.  Caswell was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $5,000 bond.

Trespassing Arrests

On July 17, 2014, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the Greene Street Parklet/Gazebo for a report of several subjects drinking alcohol and trespassing on posted property.  Upon the officers arrival they located four subjects sitting in the gazebo.  The subjects were identified as, Darrell Eugene Irvin, Kevin Allen Piper, Richard David Speck and Jeffrey Wayne Youngblood.   Once the officers contacted the subjects they observed that all four individuals were intoxicated.  The officers found, Darrell Irvin and Jeffrey Youngblood in possession of open containers of alcohol.  The officers advised all four subjects that they were trespassing in the gazebo do to it being closed for construction.  The property had been clearly posted against trespassing at the time of this incident.  All four subjects were issued criminal citations for trespassing on posted property.  Mr. Irvin and Mr. Youngblood were also issued civil citations for possessing open containers of alcohol.  They were all released from the scene pending their trial date in District Court.

Warrants Served

On Wednesday, July 09, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department arrested Nathan Ray Frye, age 30, Cumberland, MD.  One warrant stems from an investigation of a breaking and entering which was reported to the Cumberland Police Department on June 19, 2014.  On that date officers responded to a residence located in the 400 block of Arch Street where the breaking and entering took place.  Officers made contact with the female victim who advised that Nathan Frye kicked the door in and then took off running.  The victim stated that Frye did enter her residence but did not steal anything.  Once Frye saw the victim he took off running.  Charges were applied for against Frye which resulted in an arrest warrant being issued for him.  This warrant charges Frye with fourth degree burglary.

The second warrant charges Frye with failing to following conditions of his probation.   Frye was served with both warrants and then taken to District Court for his initial appearance and was held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.



Warrants Served

On Wednesday, July 09, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department arrested Joseph Edward Cody Jr, age 51, Cumberland, MD.  Officers contacted Cody due to him possessing an open container of an alcohol in the area of Park Street.  While talking with Cody it was learned that two warrants were currently active for his arrest.  One warrant charged Cody with failing to appear for court back in 2010 and the other charges Cody with second degree assault, fraud and identity theft related to stolen a credit card.  This warrant was issued after a private citizen applied for charges on July 02, 2014.  Cody was served with the warrants then taken to District Court for his initial appearance.  Cody was then held at the Allegany County Detention Center on a total of $8,000.00.

Cody was also issued a municipal citation charging him with possessing and open alcoholic beverage in a public place.
