Breaking and Entering
On 04/09/14 at 10:58am Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence located in the 500blk of Pine Ave in reference to a Breaking and Entering complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted the victim who stated that person(s) unknown entered the residence through an unlocked door and removed a snow blower from the basement area. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Dept at 301-777-1600.
Hit and Run
On 04/09/14 Officer’s with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to the 400blk of Winmer St for a reported hit and run complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted the victim who stated that sometime overnight their vehicle was struck while parked along the street damaging the rear driver side fender. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Dept at 301-777-1600.
Criminal Summons Served
On 04/09/14 the Cumberland Police Dept served a criminal summons on William Diehl III, 26yoa of Cumberland. The summons stems from an investigation initiated by the Cumberland Police Dept on 03/11/14 when Officers responded to a business located in White Oaks Plaza in reference to a theft. Employees reported that a male subject entered the business and removed an item of value without paying for the item. Further investigation by Officers resulted in the Criminal Summons being issued for Diehl charging him with one count of Theft Less than $1000. Diehl was served the criminal summons and released pending trial in District Court.
On 04/10/14 at 1202am Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence in the 500blk of Memorial Ave for a report of several 911 hang up calls. Upon arrival Officers contacted one of the residents who stated that she and her boyfriend were arguing when it became physical. The victim indicated that 39 year old Son Mai became upset and then allegedly punched her in the chest area and then grabbed a hold of her by the neck. Officers observed minor injuries consistent with her account of the incident that did not require medical treatment. As a result Mai was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was charged with one count of Second Degree Assault. Mai was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.
Hit and Run
On 04/10/14 Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to the 200blk of Paca St in reference to a hit and run. Upon arrival Officers contacted the victim who stated that sometime after 0830 person(s) unknown had apparently backed a vehicle into their vehicle causing minor damage to the rear quarter panel. There are no suspects at this time. Anyone with information or may have witnesses the collision is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Dept at 301-777-1600.
Arrest Warrants Served
On 04/10/14 at 0410hrs Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence located in the 300blk of Helen St in reference to a disturbance. Upon arrival Officers made contact with several of the residents of the residence learning that two of them had open active arrest warrants. As a result 31 year old Christopher Balderson of Cumberland was taken into custody where he was served with five warrants. The first warrant stems from an incident on 05/08/11 charging him with Destruction of Property and telephone misuse. The second warrant stems from an incident on 06/20/11 charging him with Telephone Misuse, DOP, and Disorderly Conduct. The third warrant charged Balderson with Violation of Probation through the Circuit Court of Allegany County. The fourth warrant stemmed from an incident on 10/11/11 charging him with Assault 2nd Degree and Disoprderly Conduct. The last warrant was through Garrett County charging him with Violation of Probation. Balderson was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Centre.
Also taken into custody was 31 year old Timothy Merrbach Jr. Merrbach was served with an arrest warrant charging him with Failure to Appear in District Court on a original charge of Driving Under the Influence. Merrbach was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released after posting a $3000 bail.

Criminal Summonses Served
On Wednesday, March 19, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department served criminal summonses on the following subjects;
Nicholas Craig Mooreland – age 23 – Cumberland, MD – Second degree assault.
Matthew Ryan Glaze – age 19 – Cumberland, MD – Two counts of theft.
Helen Elizabeth Hood – age 52 – Cumberland, MD – Trespassing and Disturbing the Peace.
Bench Warrant Served
On Wednesday, March 19, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department arrested Douglas Wayne Black on a bench warrant which was issued from District Court in Howard County. Black was taken to District Court for his initial appearance and was held at the Allegany County Detention Center on the bench warrant as a detainer awaiting extradition back to Howard County.

Possession of Marijuana
On Wednesday, March 19, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department arrested Shawn Ervin Lewis for possession of Marijuana. Officers contacted Lewis after observing him acting in a suspicious manner in the areas of Maryland Avenue and Elm Street. Lewis was contacted and as officers spoke with him they could smell the odor of Marijuana. Lewis then admitted to smoking Marijuana earlier and when officers asked him if he had any Marijuana on him he pulled a small baggie of Marijuana from his pocket and handed it to the officer. Lewis was then placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing. Lewis was then issued a criminal citation and released pending further action at District court at a later date.

Criminal citation for possession of Marijuana, less than 10 grams.
