While on patrol in the Maryland Ave. area an officer observed a vehicle traveling when the operator of the vehicle threw a lit cigarette out the window onto the ground. The vehicle was stopped and the operator was contacted. The operator was identified as Michael Ford. While talking with the operator and his passenger he observed them to be nervous. Due to the way the occupants were acting a K-9 scan was requested by the officer. K-9 Barney and his handler responded to the scene. K-9 Barney provided a positive alert to the vehicle for the presence of illegal narcotics. The occupants were removed from the vehicle and the vehicle was searched. The officer located three small baggies of marijuana in the center console of the vehicle. The Ford admitted that the marijuana was his and he then placed under arrest. He was transported to the station where he was issued a Criminal Citation for his violation and released pending trail in District Court.
Michael Steven Ford Age: 37 Ridgeley, WV.
Charge: Possession of Marijuana under 10 grams
District Court Arrest Warrant Served
Wayne Eugene King Age: 41 Baltimore, MD.
Charge: Violation of Probation
King was taken for a Bond Hearing and held in the ACDC without Bail.
Richard Lee Mellott Jr. Age: 42 Cumberland, MD
Charge: Parole Retake Warrant
Mellott was taken to WCI and released to their custody.

On March 2, 2014 Cumberland City Police officers served criminal summonses on two Cumberland residents after charges were filed by police. The charges stem from numerous investigations conducted by the Cumberland Police Department between the dates of November 9, 2013 and February 10, 2014.
Court charging documents allege that Brenda Sue Thomas, 41 and Joshua Michael Darby, 28 both of Cumberland, caused several separate disturbances on 02/10/2014, and nearly a dozen additional disturbances between the dates of 11/9/2013 and 2/10/2014 at a Grand Avenue residence.
Disturbing the Peace – Loud Noise: 1 count each
Disorderly House – 1 count each
Both Thomas and Darby were served with the charges and are awaiting trial at the Allegany County District Court.
