Police Log – 01/21/15

On January 18, 2015 at approximately 10:20 PM officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the area of 441 North Waverly Terrace for a gunshot complaint.  Officers arrived in the area and made contact with the caller who said he heard what he believed to be a gunshot behind his residence.  The complainant informed the officers that the shot sounded like it came from a handgun.  Officers checked the area but could not find anyone or any evidence of shots being fired.

On January 19, 2015 at approximately 12:00 AM officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to the area of 847 Maryland Avenue for a report of possible gunshots.  When officers arrived they made contact with a resident in the neighborhood who reported hearing six or eight shots but were not sure what direction they came from.  Officers once again checked the area but could not locate any evidence of shots being fired in the area.

On January 19, 2015 at approximately 8:12 PM officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 27 Weber Street in reference to shots being fired the night before in the Waverly Terrace area.  The caller informed the officers that he heard shots shortly before midnight.

On January 19, 2015 at approximately 8:52 PM officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to area of Fort Cumberland Homes in reference to shots being fired.  Officers received information that a suspect was seen leaving the area heading toward Oldtown Road.  Once officers arrived in the area of row’s 6 and 7 they spoke with several residents who reported hearing anywhere from 4 to 6 shots being fired.   One witness reported seeing the suspect fire the shots, but the suspects back was turned and she was unable to see his/her face.  After a search of the area officers located two unspent .22 caliber rounds on the sidewalk between row’s 6 and 7.  During a more extensive check of the area officers located a third unspent round in the alley running between Gay Street and Glenwood Street.  Officers were also able to locate a small black in color .22 caliber handgun with a magazine inserted in the gun.  The gun was located in the same alley the third unspent round was located. 

The Cumberland City Police Department is asking the public for their assistance in identifying the subject or subjects responsible for the recent incidents.  The Department is also asking anyone with information on any of the above incidents to contact the Cumberland City Police at 301-777-1600. 

 

Criminal Summons Served

 

On January 20, 2015, Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Joshua Allen Nixon, age 32 of Cumberland, Maryland.  The summons was issued after the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 406 Chestnut Street for a domestic assault.  During an investigation into the matter officers learned that a female victim was grabbed by the throat and shoved after being involved in an argument with Nixon.  Nixon was served with the summons and released pending his trial date in District Court.

Charge: 2nd Degree Assault

 

 

CDS Arrest

 

On January 20, 2015 an officer from the Cumberland City Police Department was on patrol in the area of Park Street when he observed a vehicle fail to stop for a clearly posted stop sign.  The officer stopped the vehicle and contacted the driver, Lowell Thomas Tolliver Jr.  While the officer was speaking with Tolliver, he detected an extremely strong odor of marijuana emanating from within the vehicle.  The officer also noticed Tolliver to be acting in a nervous manner, with his hands shaking as he handed the officer his driver’s license.  The officer advised Tolliver of his observations and instructed him to exit the vehicle.   During a probable cause search of the vehicle the officer located a clear plastic baggie of suspected marijuana, under the front passenger seat.  The baggie was found to contain more than 10 grams of marijuana.  Tolliver was placed under arrest at the scene and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Tolliver was processed, served and taken before the District Court Commissioner.  Tolliver was later released on his own personal recognizance.

Charge: Possession of Marijuana
