Police Log – 04-02-15

Wednesday April 1, 2015 during the early afternoon hours, a Cumberland Police officer on routine patrol conducted a traffic stop in an alley off of Maryland Avenue which resulted in an arrest for possession of narcotics.  The officer stopped the vehicle for a traffic violation and contacted the operator and two passengers in the vehicle.  A Cumberland City Police K-9 Officer was requested to the scene and conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle which resulted in a positive alert for the presence of CDS.  A search of the operator identified as Tara Rene Rice, 28, of Cumberland resulted in officers locating a quantity of suspected heroin on Rice’s person.  As a result Rice was arrested and charged with the following:

CDS Possession: Other than Marijuana – 1 Count

Rice was processed and transported to the Allegany County District Court for a bond hearing.  Rice was held on a $7,500.00 bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

 

 

Theft Arrest

    On April 1, 2015 during the early afternoon hours, the Cumberland City Police arrested two Cumberland men for theft at an Industrial Boulevard business.  At the time of theft an off-duty Allegany County Sheriff’s Deputy was in the area of the business and observed two subjects loading property into a truck at the rear of the business.  The two subjects were detained and an investigation was conducted by the Cumberland Police with assistance from the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.  The merchandise that had been loaded in the rear of the truck was positively identified by the business owner as their property, and they had not given permission for it to be removed.  As a result, Michael Ford, 46 of Cumberland were placed under arrest and charged with the following:

Theft:  $10,000 to under $100,000 – 1 Count each

Both were processed at the Cumberland City Police headquarters and subsequently taken for a bond hearing at the Allegany County District Court. 

Ford was held on a $4,500.00 bond.

 

Warrant Arrest

    On April 1, 2015 Cumberland City Police officers served an arrest warrant on a Cumberland man for charges alleging that he failed to follow conditions of probation relating to a previous theft charge.  Tyrell Aaron Morris, 19, of Cumberland was taken into custody by officers and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  Morris was processed and taken for a bond hearing at District Court and was subsequently held on a $250.00 bond.  Morris was remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center to await a bond review.
