Shoplifting Arrest / Criminal Summons Served

On Monday, April 06, 2015 at approximately 7:15 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Sheetz located on Virginia Avenue in reference to a shoplifter inside the store.  Upon the officers arrival contact was made with the store manager who stated that a male subject stole an item from the store and exited without paying for the item.  A store employee confronted the suspect outside of the store about the theft.  The suspect then removed the item from his clothing and placed it on a trash can outside of the store and walked away from the area.

The officer was provided a description of the suspect and also viewed store surveillance pictures of the suspect.

The officer then began to check the area and was able to locate the suspect in the 200 block of Grand Avenue.  The suspect was identified as Dustin William Bennett.  Bennett was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for process on the theft charge.

Once at Police Headquarters it was discovered that Bennett also had an outstanding criminal summons that needed to be served on him.  The summons stems from a breaking and entering complaint which was reported to the Cumberland Police Department on March 31, 2015. On that date officers responded to a residence located in the 200 block of Grand Avenue and made contact with the complainant who advised that her brother, Dustin William Bennett broke into her home.  The complainant stated that she was gone most of the day and when her roommate returned to the residence he found that the rear door to the residence was kicked in.  The roommate entered the residence and found Bennett sitting on the couch.  The roommate got into an argument with Bennett and he fled prior to officer’s arrival. 

Damage to the rear door was observed by the officer consistent with being kicked open.  Officers checked the area and were not able to immediately locate Bennett.  Charges were applied for against Bennett at District Court which resulted in a criminal summons being issued.  The criminal summons charges Bennett with fourth degree burglary and destruction of property.

Arrested:

Dustin William Bennett – age 26 – Grantsville, MD

Charges:

Theft at Sheetz resulted in a criminal citation for theft under $100.00.

Criminal summons charges Bennett with fourth degree burglary and destruction of property.

 

Criminal Summons Served

On Monday, April 06, 2015 the Cumberland Police Department served a criminal summons on Robert James Butcher.  The summons charges Butcher with being in possession of illegal drug paraphernalia.  Butcher was served with the summons and released pending further action in District Court at a later date.

Arrested:

Robert James Butcher – age 20 – Cumberland, MD

Charges:

Possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

 

CDS Arrest / Arrest Warrant Served

On Tuesday, April 07, 2015 at approximately 1:00 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to the 300 block of Frederick Street in reference to a disturbance complaint.  Upon the officers arrival contact was made with one of the subjects involved.  The subject was identified as Brandon Arthur Simpson.  A wanted check was conducted which revealed that Simpson was currently wanted on an arrest warrant.  Simpson was placed under arrest and during a search of his person officers located a controlled dangerous substance other than marijuana, a small jar which did contain marijuana and drug paraphernalia all in Simpson’s pockets.  Simpson was transported to Police Headquarters for processing.

The arrest warrant stems from a breaking and entering investigation which was reported to the Cumberland Police Department on March 24, 2015.  On that date officers responded to a residence located on N. Lee Street and spoke with the complainant.  The complainant stated that Simpson arrived and began arguing with and attempting to assault the complainant.  Simpson was then locked out however he kicked in the door, re-entered the residence unlawfully and again attempted to assault the complainant.  Simpson fled the area prior to officer’s arrival.  Officers searched the area and were not immediately able to locate Simpson.  Charges against Simpson were applied for through District Court which resulted in the arrest warrant being issued.

Simpson was served with the warrant and the drug related charges then taken to District Court for his initial appearance and was held on $5000.00 at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Charges:

Possession of CDS other than Marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia.  Civil citation for possession of Marijuana less than 10 grams.

 

Arrest warrant charges; Third degree burglary, second degree assault, destruction of property, and disturbing the peace.
