Police Log – 05/05/14

On 05/03/14 Officers from the Cumberland Police Department served a Bench Warrant on Joseph Eugene Hyser, 20yoa of Cumberland. The Bench Warrant stems from Hyser failing to appear in District Court on an original charge of Theft under $1000. Hyser was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending his next court appearance.

On 05/04/14 at 3:09pm an Officer with the Cumberland Police Dept was on patrol in the area of S Mechanic St when he observed an individual urinating underneath the I-68 Bridge. The officer made contact with the subject who was identified as 51 year old Robert Toey of Cumberland. Toey was placed under arrest and upon searching him incident to arrest, Officers located a pipe containing suspected marijuana residue. Toey was transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was processed and issued two Maryland Criminal Citations for urinating in public and possession of drug paraphernalia. Toey was released after receiving his citations pending trial in District Court.

On 05/04/14 at 6:47pm Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to the 200blk of South Central Ave in reference to an assault in progress. Upon arrival Officers located several people in the area and it was learned that an argument took place within a residence over an I-pad. The victim in this case stated that during the argument, 19 year old Briehanna Searles grabbed a broom and struck him in the back several times with the handle. The victim had injuries consistent with his account of the incident that did not require medical attention. As a result Searles was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where she was charged with one count of second degree assault. Searles was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where she was held on $2,000.00 bail. Searles was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.

On 05/04/14 Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to the 200blk of Avirett Ave in reference to a domestic assault. Upon arrival Officers began interviewing the parties involved. It was learned that a argument began over the couple’s children when 23 year old Delores Spencer threw a can at the victim and began to scratch his face. The victim had minor injuries consistent with his account of the incident. As a result, Spencer was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where she was charged with one count of second degree assault. Spencer was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where she was held on a $2,000.00 bail.
