Police make arrest in assault, theft incidents

May 8th, 2014                                                                    Arrest Warrant Served

On 05/08/14 Officers from the Cumberland Police Department served an Arrest Warrant on Evan West, 21 years of age, of Cumberland. The warrant stems from a complaint filed on 05/03/14 with the Cumberland Police Dept in reference to a theft of property that occurred at a business in the 700blk of Park St. The victim stated that they had left a phone on the customer service counter and when they went back to get it, it was gone. Surveillance footage was obtained which identified West as the suspect. As a result West was charged with Theft under $1000.00 and taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending his next court appearance.

 

May 8th, 2014                                                                      Arrest Warrant Served

On 05/08/14 the Cumberland Police Dept served an arrest warrant on Matthew Scarpelli of Frostburg. The warrant stemmed from an investigation initiated on 05/08/14 when Officer’s responded to a residence located in 500blk of Fayette St. Upon arrival it was learned that o 05/07/14 Scarpelli allegedly slapped the complainant in the face. As a result the Officer applied for charges through the District Court which resulted in the Arrest Warrant being issued. Scarpelli was charged with one count of second degree assault. He was then taken for an initial appearance where he was released on his personal recognizance pending his next court appearance.

 

May 8th, 2014                                                                            Bench Warrants Served

On 05/08/14 the Cumberland Police Dept served two bench warrants on Bianca Murphy of Cumberland. The warrants stem from Murphy failing to appear in District Court for an original charge of harassment and the other for traffic violations. Murphy was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where she was held on a total of $3,500.00. Murphy was transported to the Allegany County Detention Center.
