Police Log – 06/03/14

On Monday June 2, 2014 at 1:30 p.m. Cumberland City Police Officers responded to Baltimore Street for a reported theft.  The victim told officers that James Rossell had stolen her cell phone.  The officers located Rossell walking on Canal Street in the area of the Western Maryland Train Station.  The officers ordered Rossell to stop; however he fled the area on foot toward the bridges that lead to Ridgeley, WV.

As Rossell was evading the officers he pulled a plastic baggie from his pocket and dropped it over the bridge railing into Wills Creek.

Rossell was taken into custody by the officers in the area; the stolen property was located on his person during a search incident to arrest.

The baggie which was dropped by Rossell contained suspected marijuana and was recovered from the creek.

Rossell was transported to the police station for processing; he was later taken to the District Court Commissioner where he was released on his personal recognizance.

Charges:

Theft less than $1,000.00 value, Disorderly Conduct, CDS possession of Marijuana, Litter/Dump less than 100 lbs.

Theft $1000,00 to under $10,000
