M/V Crash

A 16 year old Cumberland youth faces numerous charges after being involved in a M/V crash involving two vehicles and an off road use dirt bike.  At approximately 9:45 p.m. on 06/16/2014 the Allegany County Emergency Operations Center received a complaint of a subject driving recklessly in the area of Broadway Street in Cumberland on a dirt bike.

Shortly after this complaint, Cumberland Police officers were dispatched to the intersection of Maryland Avenue and Putman Street for a personal injury accident involving a motorcycle and two vehicles.  Upon further investigation officers found that the juvenile was operating the dirt bike southbound on Maryland Avenue approaching Putman Street.  The bike had no lights or required safety equipment for road use.  As a result, the operator struck the front of a vehicle traveling from Maryland Avenue to Putman Street .  The operator of the dirt bike was ejected and landed under a second vehicle already stopped at the stop sign at the top of Putman Street.

The juvenile suffered unknown injuries and was transported to Western Maryland Regional Medical Center for treatment.  Charges are pending against the juvenile for various traffic and criminal violations and will be forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services for disposition.
