Police Log – 06/24/14

On 06/23/14 at 4:34am Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence in the 700blk of Baker St in reference to a breaking and entering that had just occurred. Upon arrival Officer’s interviewed the victim who stated that a male subject who they were familiar with as Demond Scott, 27yoa of Cumberland had forced entry into the residence by breaking glass in a rear door and then reaching inside to unlock the door. Once inside Scott began arguing with the resident and fled on foot. The victim also alleged that Scott removed property from the residence. Officer’s issued a description of Scott and he was located in a vehicle nearby. Scott was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing. Scott was charged with Burglary 1st degree, Burglary 4th degree, Theft less than $1000, and Destruction of Property. Scott was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $50,000 bail. Scott was transported and remanded to the Allegany County Detention Center pending his next court appearance.

 

June 23rd, 2014                                                                    Bench Warrant Served

 

On 06/23/14 the Cumberland Police Dept served a bench warrant on 25 year old Christopher Peter Butler of Cumberland. The warrant stems from Butler failing to follow conditions of probation. Butler was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was held on a $500 bail pending his next court appearance.

 

June 23rd, 2014                                                                         Theft

 

On 06/23/14 at 9:40am Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to Allegany College located on Willowbrook Rd in reference to a theft. Upon arrival Officers contacted Campus Security who advised that an unknown male had removed a golf cart from the campus without permission. A short time later Officers located the golf cart parked in the Allegany County Health Dept parking lot. The suspect was also located and identified as 20 year old Tariq Purnell of Cumberland. Purnell was subsequently placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept for processing. Purnell was charged with one count of Theft over $1000 to under $10,000. Purnell was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.
