Public Safety Message and help requested from the public

Over the last month the Cumberland City Police Department has investigated 30 tampering with M/V complaints.  In half of these complaints items were stolen from the vehicle or the actual vehicle was stolen.  Items that are being stolen are cash, change and small valuable items.  These crimes are being committed primarily at this time in the west side of town in the Fayette St. and Cumberland St. corridor.  In the south side of town they are being committed in the Virginia Ave. corridor.  Evidence has been collected in some of the cases which has lead to possible suspects being identified.  We are asking the public for assistance in catching these suspects.  Immediately call 301-777-1600 if you see anything suspicious in your neighborhood.  The common denominator in all of these crimes is that the owners of the vehicle have left their vehicles unlocked.  The Cumberland Police Department would like to remind everyone to keep all valuables out of their vehicles and to lock their vehicles at all times.
