CDS/Trespassing Arrest

On July 12, 2014, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 500 Memorial Avenue (Memorial Hospital) for trespassing complaint.  Information was received that approximately four subjects were observed entering the property.  When the first officer arrived at the location, he observed two females and two males standing inside the fenced off area that was posted against trespassing.  As the officer approached the four subjects the two males fled the area on foot.  The officer was able to make contact with two juvenile females.  While he was speaking with the females a second officer checked the area for the males that fled the area.  While traveling past the Johnson Heights Medical Building on Kent Avenue, the officer observed the suspects walking through the parking lot.  The officer contacted a juvenile male and a second subject identified as Seth Andrew Thomas.  While speaking with the two males the officer detected the odor of burnt marijuana.  During a search of Thomas the officer located a wooden marijuana smoking device.  Thomas was arrested at the scene and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  The three juveniles in this matter were released with charges being forwarded to the Department of Juvenile Services.  Thomas was processed and served with two criminal citations.  Thomas was later released pending his trial date in District Court.

Charges: Possession of Drug Paraphernalia and Trespassing on Posted Private Property.

 

Domestic Assault Arrest

On July 13, 2014 an officer from the Cumberland City Police Department was contacted in the Police Department lobby by a female who had been assaulted.   During an investigation into the matter the officer learned that the female victim was assaulted at the Ramada Inn on George Street.  The suspect was identified as Wesley Eugene Baker 2nd.  According to the victim, she and Baker spent the past two days and nights staying at the Ramada Inn.  On today's date, they began to argue after Baker accused the victim of being unfaithful.   The victim said that during the course of the argument she was on the bed when Baker began choking her with what she believed to be both hands.  The victim was able to kick and push Baker away before leaving the Ramada Inn.  The victim in this matter sustained several injuries during the altercation.  The investigating officer observed a red mark along the right side of the victim's neck.  There were several visible marks and abrasions on the victim's wrist and knees.  The victim was treated at the Cumberland City Police Department by the Cumberland Fire Department and later released.   Mr. Baker was later located and arrested at the Ramada Inn. Baker was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.   Baker was taken before the District Court Commissioner for his initial appearance.  Baker was held in the Allegany County Detention Center on $3,500 bond.
