Police Log – 07/29/14

On Monday, July 28, 2014 at approximately 11:30 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a reported hit and run accident which took place in the 400 block of N. Centre Street.  Upon the officers arrival contact was made with the victim who stated that she just came out to move her vehicle when she noticed damage to the passenger side rear wheel and axle, both the rear and front fenders, and the running board along the passenger side of the vehicle.  The victim stated that she parked her vehicle on the street the previous night at 11:00 p.m. so the hit and run happened sometime after that.  No suspect vehicle information is available at this time.  Anyone with information is urged to contact the Cumberland Police Department at 301-777-1600. 

 

On Monday, July 28, 2014 at approximately 11:41 p.m., uniformed officers were conducting foot patrols of Jane Frazier Village due to recent to disturbances taking place throughout this housing complex.  As the officers were conducting their foot patrol Shane Lee York was observed on the property of Jane Frazier Village.  Several other subjects observed that officers were in the area and one of the subjects walked toward York and advised him.  Officers were aware that York is currently on the "no trespassing list" for this property.  As officers began to approach York he started to run once he turned the corner.  Officers caught up to York and placed him under arrest.  York was charged with one count of trespassing on private property.  York was transported to Police Headquarters for processing and later taken to District Court for his initial appearance and he was held on a temporary commitment at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Arrested:  Shane Lee York – age 42, Cumberland, MD

 

On July 25, 2014 at approximately 7:18 p.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence located in the 600 block of Centre Street in reference to a breaking and entering / assault complaint.  Upon the officers arrival contact was made with the male victim who stated that his ex-girlfriend, Antoinette Washington had entered his residence uninvited through the unlocked front door.  The male victim was in the bathroom at the time and when he exited the bathroom he observed Washington standing in the hallway.  The victim stated that Washington then slapped him in the face and struck him in the back of the head as he was trying to get away from her.  During the assault Washington broke two glass mirrors in the hallway that belonged to the victim.  The victim stated that Washington also stole his cell phone prior to leaving the residence.  The victim stated that he did call Washington and advised her to return the cell phone or he was calling the police.  The victim stated that Washington returned to the area and threw the cell phone from a moving vehicle which she was in causing the phone to break.  Charges were applied for against Washington due to her leaving the area prior to the officer's arrival.  A criminal summons was then issued for Washington.  On July 28, 2014 Washington was contacted and served with the Summons.  Washington was released pending her trial at District Court at a later date.

Arrested:  Antoinette Marie Washington – age 34, Cumberland, MD

Charges: Fourth degree burglary, second degree assault, disturbing the peace, destruction of property and theft.

 

On Tuesday, July 29, 2014 at 03:30 a.m., the Cumberland Police Department arrested Jose Morais Gomes Jr, age 26, Cumberland, MD on a bench warrant.  The warrant stems from Gomes failing to appear for court which was scheduled on July 28, 2014.  Gomes was served with the warrant then taken to District Court for his initial appearance and was released on his personal recognizance by a District Court Commissioner.
