Police Log – 08-08-14

On Thursday, August 07, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department served three criminal summonses on the following subjects;

Dennis Robert Delzell – age 23 – Cumberland, MD.  The summons charges Delzell with stealing a laptop computer on April 15, 2014.  The victim applied for charges against Delzell at District Court which resulted in the summons being issued.  Delzell is charged with one count of theft.

Christy Dawn Wolfe-McKenzie – age 37 – Cumberland, MD.  The summons charges Wolfe-McKenzie with trespassing on CSX Railroad property.  On July 25, 2014 a patrolling Cumberland Police Officer observed Wolfe-McKenzie cross the train tracks in a restricted area which is posted as "no trespassing".  Charges were applied for which resulted in the summons being issued.  Wolfe-McKenzie was charged with one count of trespassing.

Alicia Christine Royer – age 26 – Cumberland, MD.  The summons charges Royer with unauthorized use of a motor vehicle.  On August 06, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department responded to a residence located in the 800 block of Mechanic Street in reference to an unauthorized use.  Upon the officers arrival contact was made with the victim who stated that his ex-girlfriend, Alicia Royer took the keys to his vehicle and drove it without his permission.  The vehicle was returned by Royer five minutes prior to the officer's arrival.  Royer had left the scene and she was not able to be located.  Charges were applied for at District Court which resulted in the summons being issued.

Charges:  Removal of property without owner's consent, taking vehicle owners property without consent, and driving vehicle without owner's consent.

 

Motor Vehicle Crash

On Thursday, August 07, 2014 at approximately 8:20 p.m., the Cumberland Police Department as well as the Cumberland Fire Department responded to Frederick Street at Silbert Street in reference to a single vehicle crash.  Timothy Aaron Baker, age 18, Cumberland, MD was operating a 1994 Saturn passenger vehicle traveling in the left lane while on Frederick Street.  The vehicle left the roadway, continued onto the curb and grassy area before striking a street sign and a fire hydrant.  The vehicle then spun sideways and rolled onto the passenger side before settling to rest on all four wheels.  Baker also had three passengers in the vehicle.

Baker stated that he looked in his rearview mirror and then the vehicle just traveled out of control.  An odor of Marijuana was detected and Baker admitted to smoking Marijuana prior to operating the vehicle.  Baker and one passenger were both transported to the Western Maryland Regional Medical center for non life-threatening injuries.  The two other passengers were not injured.  The City Street and Water Departments were both notified due to the damage to the street sign and hydrant.

Baker was charged with negligent driving and driving under the influence of a controlled dangerous substance.
