Police Log – 08/12/14

On Monday August 11, 2014, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to a private residence on South Street for a suspicious complaint.  It was reported that an individual  was observed hiding underneath a carport of a residence. Upon being located by officers, Dustin Edwards, age 23, fled from officers but was apprehended.  Investigation into this matter revealed that Edwards was attempting to steal a lawnmower but was located by officers prior to doing so.  Edwards was placed in custody and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was processed and served.  He was later taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioners Office for a bond hearing and was held on a $5,000.00 dollar bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

CHARGES:  Attempted Theft Less than $1,000.00 dollars, Obstructing and Hindering, Disorderly Conduct.

 

SUMMONS SERVICE

On Monday August 11, 2014, Cumberland City Police served a criminal summons on Crystal Rymer, age 23 of Cumberland as a result of a Theft investigation handled on August 6, 2014.  On said date, Cumberland City Police Officers responded to a business on Park Street where contact was made with the victim advising the officers that his bicycle had been stolen.  As a result of the investigation, it was revealed that Crystal Rymer was observed by video surveillance cameras taking the bicycle and leaving the area.  Rymer was served and released pending trial at the Allegany County District Court.

CHARGE:  Theft Less than $1,000.00.

On Tuesday August 12, 2014, at 1:46 am, a Cumberland City Police Officer initiated a traffic stop on Polk Street for a moving violation.  Contact was made with the occupants of the vehicle as they gave officers conflicting identification information. Further investigation into the traffic stop was conducted.  K9 “TIMO” and his handler conducted a free air sniff of the vehicle.  A positive alert was indicated and as a result a quantity of cocaine was located inside the vehicle wrapped with the intent to distribute.  A sum of currency was located as well.  The below listed individuals were arrested and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing where they are awaiting a bond hearing at the Allegany County District Court Commissioners Office.

Desmond Hamilton, age 29.  Cumberland, Maryland.

CHARGES:  Possession of Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Conspiracy.

Marcus Vaughn, age 28, Possession of Cocaine, Possession with Intent to Distribute Cocaine, Conspiracy.
