September 2nd, 2015 by WCBC Radio

On September 1,  at approximately 9:11 PM the Cumberland Police responded to a residence on Boone Street for a disturbance.  Police investigated and determined no crimes had been committed during the incident.  Police spoke with the parties involved and advised them to keep the peace.  However, at approximately 9:38 PM the Cumberland Police were called back to the residence for another disturbance involving the same people.  Investigation revealed Jerry Lyn Perkins had become involved in an altercation with juveniles at the residence after an argument.  The incident escalated when Perkins swung a baseball bat at one of the juveniles, however the juvenile was able to dodge being struck with the bat.  A female at the residence was able to get the bat off of Perkins.  Perkins also had a knife in his possession and when the female tried to get between Perkins and the juvenile, Perkins swung the knife at the juvenile in an attempt to stab him.  The juvenile was able to get out of the way and was not struck with the knife.  Evidence was collected and numerous witnesses were interviewed during the investigation.  There were no reported injuries during the incident.  Perkins was arrested and charged with 1st Degree Assault, 2nd Degree Assault, Reckless Endangerment, Disturbing the Peace, Fail to Obey, and Disorderly Conduct.  He was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $3000 pending his next appearance in District Court.
