Police Log – 09/25/15

Hit and Run

On 09/24/15 at 1630hrs Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to the area of West Elder St at Lafayette Ave in reference to a hit and run. Upon arrival Officers contacted the operator of the victim vehicle who advised that a red in color Chevy ran a stop sign and struck the side of their vehicle and continued traveling towards Virginia Ave. A witness to the event described the suspect vehicle as being a red in color Chevy passenger car with three red stripes on the trunk being operated by a white male in their twenties. The suspect vehicle sustained heavy damage to the front end of the vehicle. There were no injuries reported. There is no further information. Shoplifting

On 09/24/15 at 3:51pm the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a business located in the 700blk of Park St in reference to a shoplifting complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted store employees who advised that they observed a subject place an item on their person and attempt to leave the store without paying for it. As a result Officers issued 27 year old Justin Turner of Cumberland a Maryland Criminal Citation for theft under $100 and released him from the scene pending trial in District Court.

Again on 09/24/15 at 5:28pm Officers responded to this same location where they contacted store employees who advised that they observed a subject open an item while in the store, consume the item, and then place it back on the shelf and leave the area without paying for the item. As a result Officers issued 50 year old David Lease of Cumberland a Maryland Criminal Citation for theft under $100 and released him from the scene pending trial in District Court.
