January 21st, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On January 20, 2014 officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 301 Baltimore Avenue, Apartment #4 for a domestic disturbance.  Upon the officers arrival they made contact with Wayne Larkin Sorrells 3rd.  Sorrells advised the officers that he was arguing with his "live in" girlfriend, Rachel Nicole Whorton.  When Sorrells informed Whorton that he was leaving she became upset and started clawing at his face.  Officers on the scene were able to observe numerous scratches on both sides of Sorrells face.  When officers contacted Whorton she claimed that she scratched Sorrells in self defense.  Based on the injuries observed on Sorrells face the officers determined Whorton to be the primary aggressor.  Whorton was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department.  Before officers left the residence they found two multicolored smoking pipes in plain view.  Both pipes were determined to be drug paraphernalia.  Sorrells admitted ownership and he was placed under arrest.  Sorrells was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.   Sorrells was later released from the station after being issued a criminal citation.  Whorton was taken before the District Court Commissioner and later released on her own recognizance.
