On October 8, 2014, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to 916 East Gate Court for a domestic assault complaint. Upon the officers arrival they made contact with Kamal Datta and a female victim inside the residence. During an investigation into the matter officers learned that an argument between Mr. Datta and his wife took place that led to an assault. According to the victim, she said that she was having an argument with Mr. Datta when he came at her. Mr. Datta eventually slapped the victim in the face and struck her in the back of the head. After fighting with Mr. Datta, the victim was able to get to a phone and contact the police. Officers on the scene also noted visible injuries to the victim that did not require medical treatment. As a result of this incident, officers determined Mr. Datta to be the primary aggressor in this matter and placed him under arrest. Datta was taken to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing. Datta was later taken before the District Court Commissioner and later released on his own personal recognizance.
