Breaking and Entering Arrest
On Tuesday at approximately 9:38 AM the Cumberland Police responded to a property on Market Street for a burglary complaint. Upon arrival the police were advised someone had been stealing from the property for several weeks, including items from a building and vehicles parked on the lot. Video surveillance was viewed from the incidents, including from the incident on October 28th, and suspect(s) can be viewed committing the crimes. A local scrap yard outside of Cumberland was contacted about the stolen items from Market Street, but nothing matching the description was located at that time.
Later in the morning the scrap yard called the Cumberland Police back advising two subjects had just arrived there with some of the items they were looking for. The Cumberland Police requested the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office respond and they met the Cumberland Police at the scrap yard. Further investigation revealed Joshua James Connell as being one of the suspects from the video surveillance and he was arrested at the scrap yard. A search of the vehicle was made and items from the property on Market Street was located. The other subject was determined to not be involved and was released from the scene. Connell was taken before a District Court Commissioner where he was held on $10,000 bond.
Information was developed that some of the stolen property may be in a residence on Columbia Street. A search warrant was executed at the suspected residence with the assistance of the Allegany County Combined Criminal Investigations Unit (C3I). More items from the property on Market Street were located. Investigation into this incident is continuing. Anybody with information is asked to contact the Cumberland Police Department.
