City man charged with assault

On Thursday December 10, 2015, at 3:36 pm, Cumberland City Police Officers responded a residence in the 200 block of Somerville Avenue for a reported assault.  Investigation into this matter revealed that Richard Fickes, age 44 of Cumberland, got into an argument with the victim.  The argument escalated and according the victim, Fickes allegedly grabbed her by the neck and attempted to choke her.  As the victim broke free, Fickes bit two of her fingers leaving puncture marks.  Fickes was placed in custody and transported to the Cumberland City Police Department where he was processed and served.  He was taken to the Allegany county District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond review and was released on his personal recognizance pending trial.  The victim did not require medical attention.

WARRANT SERVICE

On Thursday December 10, 2015, Cumberland City Police served a bench warrant on Chad Groves, age 21 of Cumberland, Maryland.  The warrant was issued as a result of Groves violating the conditions of his probation as a result of a previous Theft arrest.  Groves was processed, served and taken to the Allegany County District Court Commissioner’s Office for a bond review and was released after posting a $157.50 bond.
