Theft call leads to drug arrest

December 5th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

On December 4, 2014, officers from the Cumberland City Police Department responded to Sheetz on Greene Street for a possible theft complaint.   When officers arrived they made contact with the store manager.  Officers were advised that a female subject later identified as Sommer Dawn Knotts entered the store bathroom carrying several food items and had been inside the bathroom for approximately 15 minutes.  Officers learned from store management that Knotts was told not to enter the bathroom while she was in possession of store merchandise.  Knotts refused the request and entered the bathroom with the items.  Once Knotts exited the bathroom officers observed her carrying several unopened candy bars and an open container of ice cream.  Knotts placed the items on the counter and refused to pay.  During search of the bathroom, empty wrappers were located inside the trash can.  Knotts refused to cooperate with officers during the investigation and attempted to leave the store.  Knotts was placed under arrest at the scene.  During a check of Knotts, officers located several additional items inside her jacket and pockets.  Knotts was transported to the Cumberland City Police Department for processing.  During a search of Knotts at the police station, officers located a used hypodermic syringe and a burnt metal spoon with residue.  Knotts was issued two criminal citations and later released pending her trial date in District Court.

Arrested: Sommer Dawn Knotts                                    Age: 32 of Cumberland, Maryland
