CDS Arrest

On Monday, March 10, 2014 at approximately 2:00 p.m., a Cumberland Police Officer on patrol in the area of Lamont Street stopped a vehicle after observing the female operator.  The officer recognized the operator of the vehicle and confirmed through Police Dispatch that this operator did not possess a valid driver’s license.  This vehicle was also occupied by several passengers.  The officer requested a Police K-9 to conduct a free air sniff around the vehicle for the presence of any controlled dangerous substances.  The K-9 scan was conducted which resulted in appositive alert.  Contact was then made with a passenger who was identified as Paul Robert Goetz.  A smoking device (pipe) was located on Goetz.  This smoking device contained the residue of a controlled dangerous substance.

Goetz was then issued a criminal citation charging him with possession of drug paraphernalia.  Goetz was released from the scene pending his next court appearance.

Arrested:

Paul Robert Goetz – age 28 – Frostburg, MD

Charges:

Possession of drug paraphernalia.

 

Shoplifting

On Monday, March 10, 2014 at approximately 6:45 p.m., the Cumberland Police Department responded to a business located in the 700 block of Park Street in reference to a shoplifting complaint.   Upon the officers arrival contact was made with a store representative who advised of a female identified as Beverly Frances Pendergast concealed and stole items from the business.  Pendergast was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing.

Pendergast was issued a criminal citation charging her with theft and released from Police Headquarters pending her next court appearance.

Arrested:

Beverly Frances Pendergast – age 39 – Cumberland, MD

Charges:

Theft.

 

Bench Warrants Served

On Monday, March 10, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department served two arrest warrants on Bianca Shanae Murphy.  The warrants both stem from failing to appear for court on two separate cases.  The warrants were served on Murphy and she was held on a total of $2,000.00 at the Allegany County Detention Center after her initial appearance at District Court.

Bianca Shanae Murphy – age 22 – Cumberland, MD

Charges:

Two arrest warrants for failing to appear for court.

 

Bench Warrants Served

On Monday, March 10, 2014 the Cumberland Police Department served three bench warrants on Jakela Tonice Watkins.  All three warrants stem from Watkins failing to appear for court on three separate cases.  The warrants were served on Watkins and she was held without bond at the Allegany County Detention Center.

Arrested:

Jakela Tonice Watkins – age 24 – Cumberland, MD

Charges:

Three warrants for failing to appear.

On Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at approximately 12:51 a.m., a Cumberland Police Officer on patrol stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on Race Street.  The officer contacted the operator, Sean Thomas Major.  As the officer was speaking with Major the officer could detect a strong odor of Marijuana coming from within the vehicle.  The officer requested that Major exit the vehicle and advised Major of detecting the odor.  Major then told the officer that he had a smoking device (pipe) in the center console of the vehicle that he uses to smoke Marijuana.  Officers then searched Major’s vehicle, found the smoking device and also located a baggie of Marijuana.  Major was placed under arrest and transported to Police Headquarters for processing.  Major was then issued two criminal citations and was released pending his next court appearance.

Charges:

 

Possession of Marijuana and possession of drug paraphernalia.
