Police make drug arrest following brief pursuit

On 12/7/18, Deputies with the Allegany County Sheriff's Office along with Troopers of the Maryland State Police were alerted to a vehicle that was reportedly failing to stop for the Mineral County Sheriff's Office. Deputies and Troopers were directed to the area of Rt. 220 southbound, Rawlings, MD to assist in attempting to stop the fleeing vehicle. Upon arriving in the area, Officer's did observe a West Virginia registered, Dodge passenger vehicle failing to yield for the Deputy of Mineral County. At that time, an Allegany County Deputy activated his emergency lights and siren in an attempt to stop the vehicle. The suspect vehicle again failed to yield. After a brief pursuit the vehicle was stopped in the Bowling Green, MD area. Upon contacting the operator (Jonathan Ray Cook, 33 of Wiley Ford, WV,) Officer's attempted to place him under arrest at which point he began to actively resist and assault Officers.. After a brief struggle, Cook was taken into custody. A check of the vehicle revealed multiple hypodermic syringes containing suspected Methamphetamines. 

 

The front seat passenger in the vehicle whom was later identified as Nolla Sue Rounds, 36 of Shanks, WV was also placed under arrest on the scene.  Cook, Rounds, Two Deputy Sheriff's, and a Maryland State Trooper were treated at the Western Maryland Health System for minor injuries and were later released.

 3 Counts of Assault
