On Friday, June 17, 2016 at approximately 1:30 a.m., officers from the Cumberland Police Department responded to the Pit N Go located at 362 Frederick Street in reference to an armed robbery. Information was provided that two suspects robbed the store after displaying weapons and fled on foot just before officers arrived on the scene. One suspect displayed a handgun and the other held a “pipe like” object in his hand. Video surveillance from the store and surrounding area has been obtained. The employee was not injured during the robbery.
Officers immediately canvased the area, a K-9 Officer responded and conducted a track which led to the discovery of several articles used by the suspects to disguise themselves.
Maryland State Police Crime Lab Technician responded and processed the scene and gathered all articles that were located. These items will be sent to the crime laboratory for further testing to aid in identifying the suspects.
The Cumberland Police Department was assisted by the Maryland State Police and the Allegany County Sheriff’s Office.
The Cumberland Police Department along with the County Combined Criminal Investigation Unit (C3I) is continuing the investigation.
