Police Respond To Domestic Assault Incidents

On 05/30/14 at 7:46am, Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence located in the 1100blk of Kentucky Ave in reference to a domestic assault. Upon arrival Officers contacted the parties involved who advised that an argument took place which then turned physical. Officers observed injuries to one of the parties nose and mouth consistent with being assaulted. The injuries did not require medical treatment. As a result, 39yo Beverly Pendergast was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where she was charged with one count of second degree assault. Pendergast was then taken for an initial appearance where she was held on a $5,000.00 bail pending her next court appearance. Charges were also filed on a juvenile for second degree assault through the Department of Juvenile Services.

Later Friday Officers with the Cumberland Police Dept responded to a residence located in the 300blk of Polk St in reference to an assault complaint. Upon arrival Officers contacted the parties involved where it was learned that an argument ensued. The argument later became physical and Officers observed minor injuries to the victim’s lip that did not require medical treatment. As a result, 21 year old James Kennell was placed under arrest and transported to the Cumberland Police Dept where he was processed and charged with one count of Second Degree Assault. Kennell was taken for an initial appearance at District Court where he was released on his personal recognizance pending his next court appearance.
