Polk Street Parking Still an Issue

May 3rd, 2013 by WCBC Radio

It's been more than a year since a number of complaints were aired about parking problems on Polk Street- and apparently those issues have not yet been resolved. City leaders were asked to explore a permit program about 18 months ago by a resident of Polk Street, where on-street parking is in short supply, partly because of high-volume parking needs at the International Beauty School. Because the school is in the business district zone it isn’t required to provide students with off-street parking. City Administrator Jeff Rhodes had hoped the city could operate a permit program with minimal costs and without charging residents a fee for permits- however  that hasn’t worked in other communities. Rhodes said talks with representatives from the school have taken place, but no resolution is close at hand.
