Potential Bill Would Mandate Paid Sick Leave For Some Employees

The Allegany County Chamber of Commerce held its annual pre-legislative breakfast session Friday at the Cumberland Country Club with members of the District One Delegation discussing potential bills that could impact the private sector. One of those bills was announced earlier this month by Governor Larry Hogan and it would mandate Maryland companies with 50 employees or more to offer paid sick leave and businesses with fewer than 50 workers would get tax relief for offering paid leave. 1C Delegate Mike McKay noted that it’s unlikely the current proposal will be the one that ultimately comes up for a vote in the General Assembly…
