Power Outage Hits Downtown

May 12th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

About 3600 customers of Potomac Edison lost power at 3:13 PM Monday, with the primary areas affected including Downtown Cumberland, South Cumberland, Shades Lane, and the Wiley Ford Area of Mineral County.

The problem occurred at the Thomas Street Substation, which is located near the old Cumberland Macaroni Factory along the Canal Parkway.   Two of the three transformers at that location were out of service and WCBC News was at the substation to watch crews from about a half dozen vehicles from Potomac Edison working on the problem.

Power was restored to Downtown Cumberland around 5 PM.  WCBC was off the air due to the power interruption and returned to the airwaves as power was restored.
