Presentation on Education Funding Made at Commissioners Meeting

May 16th, 2014 by WCBC Radio

The ongoing war of words concerning education funding between the Allegany County School Board and the County Commissioners continued Thursday evening with county staff pointing out the major fiscal hits the county has taken in recent years. In what appeared to be an orchestrated presentation consisting of teachers, education union representatives and students- the commissioners listened for close to a half hour about the need to fully fund the school board’s budget request. John Reuschlein, President of the Allegany County Teachers Association, said that if nothing else the increase in funding is needed to pay for a negotiated raise for teachers. He pointed to the county’s close to $20 million reserve fund as a potential source for allocating additional dollars to the school board.
