Prices At The Pump To Increase Monday

Prices at the gas pumps in Maryland will jump Monday and continue to incrementally increase over the next several years. In just five days, the new state motor fuel tax rate will go into effect- meaning a nearly four cent hike as of July 1. It will edge up from 23.5¢ a gallon to 27.3¢ per gallon.  The gas tax increase was a priority of Governor Martin O’Malley during this year’s general assembly session- and although there was much debate, the house and senate ultimately approved the legislation. The governor says he recognizes that an increase at the pumps won’t be popular, but the state had no choice as new revenue is badly needed for transportation infrastructure projects statewide…
