Prominent Businessman Passes Away

Clayton Pastorius Jr. from Ridgeley passed away Thursday at the Frostburg Village. A former prominent businessman in the area, Pastorius was the owner of Clayton Electric for decades in South Cumberland. Friends will be received at the Adams Family Funeral Home, 404 Decatur Street Wednesday from 2 to 4 p.m., and 6 to 8 p.m.

A local retired prominent businessman has passed away. David Michael Brotemarkle, with residences in Bel Air locally and Myrtle Beach South Carolina, died Friday at the Western Maryland Health System. Born in Cumberland in 1947, Brotemarkle and his wife JoAnn were past owners of a number of businesses in Cumberland, LaVale and Hagerstown- most notably Brotemarkle’s family business of a catalog showroom, Goldsmit-Black in LaVale. Prior to his business career, Brotemarkle served in Vietnam and was decorated with a Bronze Star for his service. In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children and four grandchildren and a brother. Friends will be received at the Upchurch Funeral Home on Greene Street in Cumberland Tuesday from 7-9 p.m.  The funeral service will be conducted in the funeral home Wednesday at 1 p.m. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Park where military honors will be accorded by Post #13 Veterans Honor Guard. Memorial contributions can be made to the Allegany College of Maryland Foundation where a scholarship will be established in his honor. David Brotemarkle was 64
